You can permanently remove a cartridge from the software. You might permanently remove a cartridge if you want to set a cartridge aside for long term archiving, to have available just for restoring data. This helps reduce the number of cartridges you are viewing in the Cartridge Status panel to just the current cartridges being used by your protection plans. Note that removing a cartridge is an optional procedure. The cartridge can be used for restoring data, or used again for storing protection plans (assuming the cartridge is not full) by importing the cartridge (see Importing a Cartridge).

When a cartridge is removed from the dock, the software will mark the cartridge as "Offline".

The "Offline" status means that this cartridge is known to the software but is currently not inserted into the dock.

Use the Remove button to permanently remove the cartridge from the set of cartridges of which the software is aware. When the Remove button is clicked a confirmation dialog will appear as seen below:

When "No" or "Cancel" is clicked the dialog will close and the software will take no action.

When "Yes" is clicked, the software will remove the cartridge. The following actions will take place:

  • the Cartridge page will no longer display the cartridge that was removed
  • all protection plans associated with the cartridge will be removed from the Explore page.

When a cartridge is removed from the software the stored data on the cartridge is not removed or deleted. However, you will be unable to restore files from the cartridge. If you want to use the cartridge again to archive data or restore files you will need to perform an Import operation.
